ITS is an acronym for Intelligent Transportation System. Intelligent Transportation System is the next step in the evolution of the nation's entire transportation system. ITS is a national program aimed at using technology and
communications to improve the safe transportation of people, goods, and information while saving time, lives and money. |

How did ITS get started? |

ITS became official, in 1991, when the US Congress recognized the critical need to address our aging transportation network and its pressing challenges. The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991, including the Intelligent
Vehicle Highway Systems Act, was signed into law by then President George Bush, Sr. This established a new vision for surface transportation in America. |
